“Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life; dream of it; think of it; live on that idea. Let the brain, the body, muscles, nerves, every part of your body be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, and this is the way great spiritual giants are produced.”

~ Swami Vivekananda

Ashish Yoga’s goal is to provide yoga classes in a unique learning environment that are exceptionally instructed, informative, and affordable to all students.

Ashish Yoga offers classical Hatha Yoga classes based on the Sivananda style. Sivananda Yoga was created by Swami Vishnudevananda, a devout disciple of Swami Sivananda, who condensed the teachings of yoga into 5 principles for physical, mental and spiritual growth:

  1. Proper breathing
  2. Proper exercise
  3. Proper diet
  4. Proper relaxation
  5. Positive thinking and meditation

There are several distinct characteristics of Hatha Yoga based on the Sivananda style:

  • Emphasis on meditation and relaxation techniques vital to controlling the mind and thoughts
  • Focused breathing exercises which are important for purifying energy channels
  • Extended hold of asanas (postures) which release tension and reap health benefits
  • Leverage of natural environments, unaltered by control of extreme temperatures, that allow the mind and body to conform to present conditions
  • Adaptation to individual body types, without extensive use of props (blocks, straps, etc.), while maintaining proper alignment and posture

The Sivananda style of yoga is ideal for individuals who are looking to take charge of their health and make a deeper connection to yoga in pursuit of mind and body perfection.

The practice emphasizes concentration, meditation, relaxation, warm-up, breathing (pranayama), and postures (asanas) at a more controlled pace – without focusing on physical aerobic exercise and continuous flowing movements like other yoga styles – with the same health and well-being benefits.

An Ashish Yoga practice can have profound impact to the body and mind such as toning muscles, increasing flexibility, controlling weight, reducing stress, and diminishing anxiety.
